A Sustainable Impact
Over the past 25 years, Page Island has served as an example of sustainable eco-tourism in the heart of Beaufort County. This 25+ acre chain of hummock islands has been managed by Outside Brands and serves as an example of how eco-tourism can thrive in harmony with the ecosystem.
WHAT WE DO
-
No conventional power has been tapped to operate Page Island. Any power needs utilize the sun’s energy through solar power.
-
Any fresh water needs are either transported on to the island or received from rain catchment.
-
Pathways and boardwalks have been designed to leave most of the land untouched. In many situations to go from A to B, you must first go to C.
-
Restrooms on the island are built with solar powered energy and rain catchment water pumps to assist with flushing and hand washing. While residential septic has been permitted, we opted to instead install removable units that are transferred back to boats for pump out.
-
Plastic is not permitted on Page Island, including the use of water bottles.
-
Every Page Island visitor receives an orientation to the following our Leave No Trace principle upon arrival:
Take out what you bring in, walk only on traveled surfaces, dispose of ALL waste properly, leave what you find, & respect the wildlife.
-
Outside realizes the immense benefits of oyster reefs to the the local ecosystem and is dedicated to maintaining their heath.
